Adam from Palmetto State Armory joins us at the Spring 2016 Big 3 East event to talk about their new KS47 and Gen 2 PSA AK-47. We also touch on their new 1911’s as well as their new 9mm offerings.
We’ve been reporting on the X95 from IWI for several months and we’ve been dying to get our own.
There are several improvements and changes in the X95 and at the same time some of the things I love about the original Tavor are still maintained.
The X95 keeps things like the 16.5″ cold hammer forged barrel as well as the top rail with folding back up iron sights that lay flush when not in use. Also retained is the tritium insert in the front sight post.
Some changes include a new trigger OEM trigger pack with a pull that has been lightened to 4-6 pounds. It’s a crisp trigger and the best factory trigger I’ve ever felt on a bullpup.
The magazine release has been changed and moved forward to a location more familiar to a AR series rifle, it’s also ambidextrous. The X95 has 5 QD sling attachment points as well as removable panels on the sides and bottom of the handguard that reveal rails for mounting any accessory you might need. This is a huge step up over the Tavor and it’s OEM handguard. Pictured above is my OD Tavor with the best solution I found, a Manticore Arms ARC-Lite rail with built in light.
The 13C Gun Reviews YouTube page has a video with more details as well as a quick field stripping segment as well.
For the past few months I have been wearing the Safeguard female Coolmax carrier. This carrier is made with female curves in mind. It’s lightweight, wears well and is also breathable. While wearing it in my everyday adventures it was hardly detectable by family and friends. I wore it while grocery shopping, running errands and also while doing my everyday routine at home. It took a it bit of getting use to at first but after a few days of wear I was getting use to it and after a week I hardly noticed it was there.
The Safeguard Coolmax weights 5.5 pounds and is made with Dupont Kevlar with an affordable base price at $210.00. Size options range from small to 4x large and comes in short, normal and long. Larger sizes and longer lengths carry a surcharge but are still affordable even for the everyday civilian wearer. My vest offers ballistic level NIJ 2 and edge blade level 1 resistance. Read more »
While at the Big 3 East training center 13C visits with FN USA to shoot and talk about their Military Collectors series which includes the M249S and FN 15 series of rifles.
We’ll have much more information about the Big 3 East over the upcoming weeks so make sure to join our mailing list.
Every single firearm or suppressor in the hands of Citizen is a positive thing and the harder it makes it for some busy body politician to try and ban them. Different ages sometimes dress differently than others and SilencerCo is taking note:
“SilencerCo is able to reach the younger millennial audience because that’s actually a large portion of the people who make up our company We can understand and market to that group because we are that group. My advice to companies looking to reach a younger demographic would be to consider hiring professionals from that particular demographic to run your marketing division; that way, you produce content that speaks to your desired market and really hits the mark.” — Josh Waldron
The 1450M itself isn’t new to the Tactical Walls lineup but the RFID technology is. We first broke news of the RFID locking system at SHOTshow and we’re privileged to have one of the first “in the wild”.
There are a few very cool features that the RFID allows over the traditional magnetic locks. First is that you can hide these cards virtually anywhere, you can also place them in a wallet or inside a book and not even have to take them out in order to use them.
Another nice feature would be having “One card to open them all”. The RFID units used by Tactical Walls can have multiple cards programed to each lock, so you could have the cards that came with your Mirror also open your Shelf.
The technical specifications on RFID are somewhat dry, so feel free to skip ahead and go straight to the video linked at the end. The lock takes a CR123 battery and should you not heed the low battery warning, the lock itself is designed to fail in the unlocked position so you won’t find yourself destroying your mirror should the battery die. You should get years of life out of a single battery but changing it once every year or two is probably a good idea.
Pre-Orders for the RFID model can be made now and include free shipping, delivery is expected in about 4 weeks.
The mirror system itself is best seen in action, feel free to check it out on the 13C YouTube Page.
It’s been hard not to hear about the Eotech issues over the past few months. Some people have decided to return their holographic sights while others have opted to keep them.
In my case, I was using an Eotech XPS-2 on a IWI Tavor, my home defense rifle. In a worst case scenario this rifle can go from a comfortable indoor temperature of 72 degrees f to outside at night in the dead of winter facing extremes as low as -28 degrees f. For me the risk of a Point of Impact (POI) shift was too great of a risk. Be it two legged or four legged threats here on the Hacienda, I need my rifle and my optic to work no matter what. In our latest review we take a look at the Nikon Monarch 3 3-12×42 with BDC and First Focal Plane reticle.
My impressions of this optic are overall very good. It’s got very good glass for it’s price point and does fairly well in diminishing light settings. It also features fully coated “ClearCoat” optics for reducing glare and improving light transmission.
Some other features include being water proof, shock proof and fog proof thanks to a nitrogen purge from the factory Read more »
To those in the firearms industry and community: Do NOT talk to the Main Stream Media. Don’t do it. Seriously, don’t. There truly is very little, if any, upside.
If you want to talk about something, please contact us or another unbiased source that won’t twist your words or selectively edit your comments to make it seem like you support something you don’t.
If you simply cannot keep from talking to someone from the mainstream media, I (or another industry media professional) can help you by being there and recording the entire interview simultaneously to have an accurate record of what was said.
Keep in mind though, if the media is doing a hit job, their version will still be out there and unless it is truly blatant you may have little to no recourse other than posting the unedited footage.
Again, please, if you are considering a MSM interview, reconsider.
If you have a favorite company or know of a company that could use this reminder, please share this post with them and/or tag them.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be looking more closely into female body armor options as well as wearing it during my day to day activities for fit and comfort testing. Leading up to that I wanted to get out some thoughts on Female armor options and developments. -Jane
The Development of Female Body Armor
Properly fitting body armor may seem like an obvious thing to emphasize, and yet far too many people have worn armor that simply doesn’t fit them properly. This is an important issue for a number of reasons: first, armor that does not fit may be uncomfortable, particularly when worn for extended periods. This means that there is an increased chance that you may not be wearing your vest when you need it most. Second, a vest that does not fit properly may have gaps in protection that, even when worn regularly, means you may not have the coverage you need.Read more »
